{"id":427,"date":"2021-11-23T04:18:27","date_gmt":"2021-11-23T04:18:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/activewellnesscenter.com\/?p=427"},"modified":"2021-11-23T04:18:27","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T04:18:27","slug":"eat-this-not-that-healthy-food-swaps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/activewellnesscenter.com\/blog\/eat-this-not-that-healthy-food-swaps\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cEat This, Not That.\u201d Healthy Food Swaps."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to meals, I\u2019m always trying to find ways to make my life easier.\u00a0 Sometimes I\u2019m way too busy to cook\/prepare a meal, and other times I simply don\u2019t feel like it!\u00a0 Convenience foods are my go-to in these times.\u00a0 This does not mean that I am not making a conscious effort to fuel my body with the nutrients that I know it needs.\u00a0 Instead, I like to think of it as giving convenience foods a boost, nutrition-wise.<\/p>\n<p>My goal is always to find convenience foods\/meals that are, at the very least, slightly more nutritious than some of the typical convenience foods like chips, crackers, cereal, deli meats and other highly processed foods on the market.\u00a0 A few of the things I try to look for in products are good ingredients, fiber and protein content.\u00a0 I also try to minimize saturated fats, sodium and added sugar where I can.\u00a0 All of that being said, not every product will be perfect!\u00a0 It\u2019s all about making adjustments where you can \u2013 small swaps here and there add up!\u00a0 Here are a few of the swaps I recommend when it comes to convenience foods:<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"306\"><strong>Instead of This\u2026<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"318\"><strong>Try This!<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"306\">White bagel with cream cheese<\/td>\n<td width=\"318\">Whole grain English muffin with a nut butter, banana and hemp seeds<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"306\">High-sugar, cold breakfast cereals<\/td>\n<td width=\"318\">\u00bd portion of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Natures-Path-Heritage-Healthy-Organic\/dp\/B000E4ALF6\">lower-sugar cereal<\/a>\u00a0with \u00bc-\u00bd cup of nuts\/seeds added<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"306\">Flavored, single-serve oatmeal packets<\/td>\n<td width=\"318\">Plain, cooked oats, topped with nuts\/seeds\/nut butters, fruitOr, a low-sugar pre-packaged option like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Bobs-Red-Mill-Organic-Classic\/dp\/B08MDHD1HT\/ref=sr_1_21?dchild=1&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjw95yJBhAgEiwAmRrutFRpknnoWSg_FQ4dcfixQSNLOR_m1emADfHgByMv0W5c7MPppPXzshoClFoQAvD_BwE&amp;hvadid=178367259088&amp;hvdev=c&amp;hvlocphy=9003316&amp;hvnetw=g&amp;hvqmt=e&amp;hvrand=11792800118112819042&amp;hvtargid=kwd-158120943679&amp;hydadcr=29144_10188539&amp;keywords=bob%27s+red+mill+oatmeal+cups&amp;qid=1630008226&amp;rdc=1&amp;sr=8-21\">Bob\u2019s Red Mill Oatmeal w\/ flax &amp; Personally, I keep nut butters and oats in my office at work and crackers or trail mix in my car.
